The Artist
Comprised of Chris Johnson & Stephen Weibelt, Colossal Gospel is an idie folk band hailing out of Leeds, Alabama. Circles is the duos self-released debut album.

The Music
Many moons ago, before the internet gave way to the likes of the all mighty Bandcamp and SoundCloud, you may have caught music such as this in another form (ie. CD or perhaps even a cassette tape). Wouldn't that make for quite an authentic experience? It seems that way doesn't it? Yet, we are still enjoying their music nonetheless. The pair's intonation influences upon a sense of mere ambient bluegrass authenticity, to say that there is a definitive rural feel behind their music probably reminiscent of their southern foundation. Circles emits a sense of calmness with me and it's quite beautiful. This is the type of album (and music for that matter) that Canadians should be introduced to. I mean, you may get a taste of this genre from the likes of fellow indie folk artists such as Iron & Wine or perhaps even Beirut, but there is still an slight inherent difference. Circles has this rugged rawness (even more so than Iron & Wine or Beirut) to it as if it was recorded in a hallway or closet. That's the beauty in it.
